Made in Japan 1950s.
When Nested Approx. 3 7/8” High x 3 1/4” Wide at Widest Point, 3 oz.
Beautiful and highly collectible Vintage Mid-Century Japanese Aizu Lacquerware Nesting Bowl Set.
This unique, puzzle-style novelty set doubles as a traditional Japanese parlor drinking game (Ozashiki Asobi)!
It features five nesting pieces that pack away perfectly inside a whimsical mushroom-shaped outer container.
Crafted in the historic lacquerware city of Aizu-Wakamatsu, Japan, each piece is decorated with traditional, hand-painted maki-e landscape scenes showing Mount Fuji, pine trees, and travelers highlighted in brilliant gold and vibrant color accents.
The set includes a custom matching lacquerware rolling die with gold Roman numerals on its faces.
Players take turns rolling the die to see which numbered cup (I through V) they must drink from!
The inside wall of each cup features a guiding Roman numeral to match the roll, with a golden Mount Fuji painted inside the final master cup.
This set is 100% complete with all original components, making it a fantastic conversational display piece or unique addition to any barware collection.
