The polychrome scene depicts a classical mythological subject in the Renaissance-revival istoriato tradition Molaroni is celebrated for. Signed on the reverse with the maker's blue underglaze crown-over-M mark.At 20 inches in diameter, this is a rare presentation-size example of Molaroni's figural work.

THE SCENEA pastoral mythological composition set in an Italianate landscape. Multiple classical figures in flowing drapery — a seated central figure with infant, a kneeling attendant in orange and yellow robes, standing companions, and an elder bearded figure — arranged before a wooded setting with distant architecture and a goat in the foreground.
