This is a highly impressive and collectible Santonian ammonite association specimen from the main stream of the Naka-Futamata River, Kami-Haboro, Haboro Town, Hokkaido, Japan.
The specimen preserves a remarkable natural concentration of ammonites together in one large matrix, making it a very attractive display piece as well as an important collector specimen.
The centerpiece is a particularly large and beautifully preserved Neophylloceras subramosum, measuring approximately 17 cm (6.7 inches) in diameter. Specimens of Neophylloceras at this size are not commonly encountered, and its prominent position on the matrix gives the piece exceptional visual impact.
In addition to the large Neophylloceras, numerous other ammonites are preserved throughout the matrix, including specimens identified as:
* Tetragonites popetensis
* Anagaudryceras yokoyamai
* Gaudryceras tenuiliratum
* Yokoyamaoceras jimboi
* Damesites sugata
Many additional ammonites and partial specimens can be seen on the front, sides, and reverse of the matrix.
What makes this specimen especially desirable is the combination of several different ammonites preserved naturally together, the unusually large Neophylloceras, and the very detailed locality information.
