Offered for sale is an original c1910 Amherst College tobacco leather from the L40 College Pennant, Yell & Emblem series.
This is the desirable large-format example measuring approximately 3.5” × 2.5”, featuring an early Amherst football design.
The front features a large “A” pennant, an early football player holding a football, and the period Amherst school yell:
“Amherst! Amherst! Rah! Rah! Amherst! Rah! Rah! Rah! Rah! Rah! Rah! Rah! Amherst!”
The purple and silver/white coloration remains very attractive, with an ornate multi-line border surrounding the design.
The L40 series dates to the early 20th-century tobacco-premium era, approximately c1910, and is collected today alongside early tobacco cards and other pre-war collegiate memorabilia.
Condition: Original antique condition with age-related surface and print wear, small areas of discoloration/finish loss, edge and corner wear, and other signs of age. There is a noticeable crease/bend near the upper edge. The central football design, pennant and school yell remain strong and clearly visible.
No cleaning or restoration has been attempted.
Please examine the photo carefully for exact condition. You will receive the exact Amherst College tobacco leather pictured.
An excellent early piece for collectors of Amherst College, early college football, L40 tobacco leathers, antique tobacco premiums and pre-war sports memorabilia.
