This is a silver gelatin photograph that is unmounted and is 5½ x 3½ inches (140x90mm).

It shows a Thames sailing barge under full sail on a river, with dark spritsail, topsail, foresail and mizzen set. The barge sits low in the water with a leeboard visible on its side, and figures can be seen on deck near the stern and bow. Lettering is painted on the bow but is too small to read with certainty. Other sailing barges under sail appear in the background on the left, and the far bank is lined with trees. A small dinghy floats on the water to the right of the barge.

The reverse has a pencil caption reading \'\"East Anglia\"\', which may be the name of the barge. There is a stamped number that appears to read \'40 90\', a large pencilled letter \'G\', and a further pencil annotation that is not clearly legible.
