Thames Sailing Barges Memory Sirdar Westmoreland Under Sail c1950s Photo For Sale

This is a silver gelatin photograph that is unmounted and is 2¼ x 2¼ inches (60x60mm).

It shows a Thames sailing barge under full sail on open water, with dark tan sails and a light-coloured foresail, and a small pennant flying at the masthead. Figures can be made out on deck near the bow, and the barge is heading to the left with a short wake. Two more spritsail barges follow close behind, and another sail is visible far off on the horizon. The front margin is handwritten in blue ink \'Memory? Sirdar\', the question mark suggesting the writer was unsure which barge is in the foreground, and \'Westmoreland\' is written beneath at the lower right.

The reverse has the reference \'74A\' in blue ink and the number \'0940\' in pencil, with a further small pencil mark.
