Antique & Vintage Photographs EST. 1998 Thames Sailing Barges Quay Cranes Ashingdon Essex VTG Photo
This is a silver gelatin photograph that is unmounted and is 5½ x 3½ inches (140x90mm).
It shows a row of sailing barges moored alongside a quay, viewed from the quayside with the concrete edge of the wharf running across the foreground. The nearest barge has its sprit rigging raised against a pale, overcast sky, and further masts and sprits rise from the barges moored beyond it. Two dockside cranes with lattice jibs stand behind the moored vessels, one beside a large shed or warehouse at the right of the picture. Figures are visible at the far end of the quay.
The reverse has a pencilled place name, which appears to read \'Ashingdon\', underlined. Beneath it is the number \'109\', also underlined in pencil. A faint, mirrored impression of a stamp ending in \'Photo\' is visible, but the rest of it is not legible.
