View Larger Image   Starrett Hermaphrodite Caliper No. 42 Lock-Joint 4 Inch   Description: This is a quality made 4" hermaphrodite caliper marked "THE L.S. STARRETT CO. ATHOL MASS. U.S.A.". The markings on this tool are very clear and easy to read. This is a rare and hard to find caliper, half divider and half caliper, with the lock joint, fine adjustment, and adjustable scribe leg length features, all in great shape! This tool was designed to scibe lay-out line an equal distance from an existing surface, the curved caliper leg is to touch again the existing surface, and then the scibe leg to scribe the line. This one is in very nice condition, the bare metal is clean, no rust or damage, very little minor wear. We do note a past owner's name neatly engraved on the leg opposite the Starrett mark. It actually measures 4.6" long overall, but the size is given in the catalog from the pivot joint to the tip, so this one is a 4" caliper.
